Light Sculptures, new for 2013, by i>Lab.
i>Lab designs and makes ornamental glass resin sculptures, with internal LED’s, that capture static and translucent representation of organic forms such as liquids and flowers. Each sculpture offers a space for playful interactions between different types of light, and “mixes” light in various ways. Hence the sculpture titles of “versus”, form versus light, and light versus light.
i>Lab has a fascination with the paradox of the hidden world. The mixed translucency / mixed texture sculptures examine the perceptual realism of form by providing a three-dimensional physical playground where antithetic light interactions create beautiful spaces, behind, through, around, from, and within.
All Light Sculptures are hand made, individually signed, and numbered.
i>Lab finds new ideas totally compelling, and is always interested to discuss bespoke ideas and commissions.
About the Artist
i>Lab is a new tag for Bristol based artist Alistair Burleigh.
Alistair graduated in 2006 from The University of Wales with a degree in Fine Art and Contemporary Media, and has been practicing as a digital artist in various guises since. He was one of the first people to develop 360 degree video mapping systems, and between 2005-2008 was very active in developing and installing ground breaking mapping and VJ installations within artistic fields around the UK.
Between 2009 and 2012 Alistair has been working in more commercial environments, with lead roles on large scale video mapping projects internationally for clients including Chanel, James Bond films, UAE Pavilion@ World Expo 2010 Shanghai, Arcadia Group, secret projects on private mega yachts, and more.
In late 2012, with the democratisation of technology leading to the increasing popularisation and commercialisation of video mapping generally, Alistair sought a new creative vehicle. He started exploring and developing the new concept of Light Sculptures, and coined the anagram of i>Lab (ali.b :-)) to cover this new body of work for 2013 and onwards.
