Exploring the intuitive and impulsive power of nature, this exhibition highlights forces imbued in the elements that deeply resonate with us.

Seven artists harness some of the rich complexities found in the natural world through works using light, sound, lasers, harmonics, geometry and magnetic energies.

Paul Friedlander focuses on waveforms. Through light & colour he conveys how frequencies or waveforms around us can be used to cross dimensions. A former physicist studying under nobel prize winner Andy Leggett for his work on string theory, his work is multi-dimensional, quantum art at it’s finest.

Ronald Mallory creates living performative artworks that date back to the 1960’s and reveal the beauty of liquid metal. The element Mercury is named after the Roman god Mercury – it was known to ancient civilizations, and is the only element to retain its alchemical name as its modern common name. It has been found in Egyptian tombs from the 1500s BCE, and symbolised the watery abyss of the underworld.

Balint Bolygo uses lasers to create infinitely varied light-scapes with various optical gratings that cause an almost random interference pattern. These projected forms become reminiscent of very distant cosmic events such as nebulae and supernovas that encapsulate the viewer before disappearing and morphing into another form.

Jim Bond explores the organic mechanisms that are within us & surround us through his brilliantly constructed apparatuses and figures, highlighting the interrelations that occur between balanced, moving and resisting components.

Dianne Harris‘ magnetic work, ‘As Above, so below’ explores the concept of duality and questions what is real and what is imagined. The orbs spin within an illusory plane, suggesting a parallel dimension as they perform their cosmic dance. Their relation to one another, with what is above corresponding to what is below, creates an unadulterated vision of the mutual dependence found in life and the forces that tie our planetary system together.

Atmos / Alex Haw (with Harish Persad) have created ‘Sketch Strangler’ a light installation like a strangler fig tree that worms its way through the Sketch lobby’s dark forestal void, reaching towards the light – and carrying light with it. It appears like a parasite, slowly strangling its host – but acts more like a symbiote – collaborating with its host environment to bring the gift of light.

Ubik Teatro create interactive, immersive and multimedia projects, often characterised by a theatrical quality, and a unique combination of tradition and innovation. ‘In Vitro’ is a holographic video mapping installation where human bodies and plants appear, morph and dissolve within laboratory test tubes.
