The stunning and luminous abstractions produced by the husband and wife team Rob and Nick Carter are the result of a unique process developed by the two artists over the last decade, a technique they refer to as “painting with light” as it utilizes fiber optics to apply shape and colour. While, in many ways, their work may seem to intersect the processes of painting and photography, the Carters create these images without the use of cameras or brushes, relying instead on the dramatic chemical reaction that Cibachrome photosensitive paper retains when exposed to increments of coloured light.
