After initially mastering classical techniques, Zanotto has directed himself towards technological mediums. The latest evolution in his work is to explore the world of holography. By expanding the expressive possibilities already intrinsic in his creations, he transforms virtual, light sculptures into holographic installations. His research aims to create a link between a classical artistic production (with an ideal reference to the erotica of Art Nouveau) and new modes of expression, derived from the use of technological mediums. In Zanotto's “Holotheca” holo-displays, material and virtual spaces join together. Within the concrete physical boundary formed by the containment structure of the theca, the vision of a virtual, fluid and immaterial space appears, creating a potentially infinitely imponderable depth, where the ghost, maker or God controlling the machine gives the construct of life and destruction of separation, on going & ever present in a suspended dimension in which the sculpture, or living entity and the intangible artificial body parts converge & scatter, confronting the viewer with the vision of another space, parallel and co-present with the one commonly perceived, staging of a multiple level of reality. Each holographic piece is accompanied by an audio piece specially created by Zanotto, forming an integral component to the work.
